Eigg Whistle

The final thing I whittled while staying on Eigg was an egg-shaped whistle, which I gave to my littlest niece for Christmas:

I actually did the overall shape of half a dozen of them, though I only finished this one while on the island. The slot is in slightly the wrong place so it only whistles if you blow quite hard into it, but when it does work it's very loud. The material is seasoned sweet chestnut (quite similar to oak to work with). The finish is a light coat of sanding sealer to protect it a bit while still leaving it natural-looking.
